Sad tale from Ugwuanyi, needs N12 million to stay alive

For 34 year old Nonso Ugwuanyi, a native of Enugu State, Nigeria, life might be heading for worst except miracle happens as he needs 12Million to correct his two failed kidneys.

Moreso, his stomach is gradually expanding out of proportion due to his inability to stick to dialysis as requested by his doctors.

Ugwuanyi, a young Lagos based business man whose leg was amputated a couple of years ago following an accident he was invloved in Lagos suddenly developed kidney issues sometime last year.

It would be recalled that Ugwuanyi was diagnosed of End -Stage Renal Disease and by implication he needs to be carrying out dialysis three times a week, a development that has rendered both his immediate and extended family bankrupt.

In a medical report dated June 3, 2019, signed by Dr. Okafor H.U, of the Enugu State Teaching Hospital, Enugu, Nigeria, and made available to revealed that ” Nonso is being managed by our unit for CKD CGN for about a year now and is on maintenance twice weekly”

According to Dr Okafor, ” Presently he is stable. On examination he is pale with bilateral pitting leg edema + sacral edema”

Checks by further revealed that Nonso needs to carry out a transplant at Federal Medical Center, Umuahia, Abia State, Nigeria and the bill is put at N12million which is far beyond the reach of his family.

It was further gathered that a living donor is best suitable for Nonso so as to enable him keep a healthy life since two of his kidneys are damaged.

Apparently his younger brother has volunteered to donate his one of his kidneys to Nonso which it was learnt will keep him up to 10-20years on earth.

Confirming the sad development to yesterday, June 16, 2019 Nonso who is gradually giving up hope judging by the show of neglect by supposed friends and relatives, noted “Both of my kidneys have failed and I need dialysis 3 times a week at 4 hours a day for each dialysis run.

According to him, ” Due to the dialysis my body is getting infected frequently and creating more complications which are very painful. I used to do business ealier but last one year I have been unable to work because of my deteriorating health conditions”.

Ugwuanyi further explained that he moved to Parklane (Esut teaching hospital) to access cheaper dialysis as he was unable to bear the dialysis expenses in Lagos where he was staying earlier.

At this point in my life, according to Nonso” I am hoping to move towards a transplant while my physicians and transplant team feel that I am still medically strong enough to undergo the transplant procedure”.

He maintained that the Operation costs for transplant and post operative treatment would come to approximately. N12 million.

In an emotion laden voice Nonso said”I cant afford such a huge cost. Pls I need your help.At this stage I do not want to lose opportunity and hope, so please help me in this critical situation”.
