In its effort to foster religious harmony as well as build friendship across religious divide, Sant Egidio Nigeria recently wined and dined with Muslim faithful in Jos, Plateau State.
The gesture, it was learnt was the first of its kind in the area as it attracted the attention of well meaning individuals who were stunned by this show of love displayed by the Community of Sant Egidio Nigeria.
The Muslim Community which is located along Zaria road is haeded by Baba Aliyu Ganga.
It would be recalled that Jos, Plateau is one state that has been riddled with community clashes for over a decade now and this meeting to a large extent was aimed at creating strong ties between the two dominant religions in the state.
Interestingly, SantegidioNigeria presented beverages, food items as well as a gift to commemorate the Sallah festivities.
In his remark, a representative of the Plateau State chapter of Sant Egidio Nigeria, Mr James Peter, noted that the visit was in line with the objectives of the organization which is known for its peace advocacy and friendship with the poor.
Peter, who was elated by the warm reception demonstrated by the Muslim faithfuls, thanked them for accepting their gift of love and pledged Sant Egidio’s readiness to sustain the tempo.
Responding, the Chief elder of the Community, Baba Aliyu, commended the Community of Sant Egidio for its commitment in promoting peace in the society even as he urged members of the organization to conitnue with the intiative of bridging the gap between the two dominant religions in the state.
He equally prayed God to help the nation to set aside religious and political differences and embrace peace as the nation needs peace in no better time than now.
